Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist - 1st Look

Director Pete Sollett of Five Feet and Rising returns with his follow-up film - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist - and it looks hella funny. It's a tale of two teenagers, nursing broken hearts, fall in love during one sleepless night in New York while searching for their favorite band's unannounced show. I love teen flicks and Michael Cera revs it up in the trailer - enjoy!

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist hits theaters on Friday, October 3rd of 2008, scheduled to be shown at Toronto International Film Festival (Special Presentations) in September, and is based on Rachel Cohn and David Levithan's novel.

Pete Sollett is repped by Craig Kestel @ William Morris Agency.

Chris Safos's Endorsee Brad Bailey @ CNN

RR's Chris Safos endorsee Brad Bailey (The Accidental Pundit) is featured on CNN.com discussing CNN's two-part documentary on iReport.com. The Yale and Princeton graduate Brad Bailey of Los Angeles, California, watched the CNN documentary at his home with colleagues who have been involved in the film industry. Bailey states that there aren't enough black roles on television and in movies, For me, I think it's about who creates these roles, Bailey said. I've only been successful when it came to roles that were specifically designed for being black.

Stalking Producer Arthur Hooker

We had tickets to watch a block of shorts featuring Producer Arthur Hooker's directorial short film debut at Action On Film Festival in Pasadena, California, and we couldn't make the screening - Duoh! But we stalked Arthur after his screening and he indulged us, answering some questions:

On his short film - Stalker's Dating Guide - screening tonight @ Action On Film Festival: Stalker's Dating Guide was a really fun piece to direct. It's a story about Stacey Wolfe played by actress Joanie Bannister, who finds herself "Creatively Observing" men whom she is interested in. The story becomes really interesting as she is tricked by her best friend Wendall (Andrew Sensenig) into attending a Stalker's Anonymous meeting.

On Stalker's nominations @ Action On Film Festival: We won 2 out of the three awards we were nominated for. Joanie Bannister (also nominated for best actress) won the award for Best Produced Screenplay. The writing team comprised of Joanie Bannister, James Arnette and Myself won the award for best comedy short screenplay.

On transitioning from being a feature film producer to directing: The transition was good. I think that this project was a great way to implement a lot of what I learned from producing Borland as well as utilizing my extensive back ground with actors in theater. I had a great group of folks to work with, Cinematographer David Pinkston, Producer Joanie Bannister and a wonderful cast of actors and crew.

On his upcoming projects: Currently I'm shooting a film called Waking up that stars Sean Brison (From Mel House's Walking Distance and Stalker's Dating Guide) and Brandi Price (from Ken Farmer's Rockabilly Baby). The film is about Mikal (Brison) a clairvoyant dreamer who awakes to realize that he will die if he does not figure out how to alter his current day's events. Cate (Price) is Mikal's ex-girl friend that turns out to be more important to his well being than he ever imagined. The project will finish prinicipal production in mid august and will premeire by the years end.

I am in phase two of shooting my feature documentary called "Finding Passion" an international study of creativity and passion that spans the countries of India, United Kingdom , Mexico, Spain and U.S. It will be released fall '09.

Finally, I'm working on the film adaptation of a stage play I produced called "Love Crazy People". Principal photography is set to begin Fall '09.

On how young producers can contact him for advice: I can be reached at info@newmetrofilms.com

Rinko Kikuchi @ The Brothers Bloom

Rian Johnson is back with another film - The Brothers Bloom - the director that brought us Joseph Gordon-Levitt's noir detective in Brick. I love the self-contained Brick so much, I've watched it at least 5x. Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo star in The Brothers Bloom.

Brody's character, one-half of the world's best con artists, decides to quit his life of crime. However, he's persuaded by his brother - Ruffalo - to do one more job, swindling Rachel Weisz's eccentric millionaire, but she turns the table on the duo.

On ending one of his and his father's bonding rituals: We would drink together and smoke together, and it's just a bad deal. It's not something that is conducive to being a role model—no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. John Bennett Fitts Shoots Lindsay Price

Lipstick Jungle star Lindsay Price graces the pages of Esquire in the nude for its "What It Feels Like... To Pose for Your First Nude Photo" essay.

John Bennett Fitts

The week before the shoot, I worked out harder than I had in my entire life. I was anxious all week. The day of the shoot, I had fantasies of driving to Mexico to avoid doing it. I took the longest shower of my life, exfoliating, moisturizing, paying really close attention to where I shaved. I went to the set in my baggiest jeans and my most comfortable sweatshirt -- a really antisexy outfit. - Price

Lipstick Jungle airs on NBC.

I woke up at 2:00 A.M. the day of the shoot. I had to tell myself thirty times in a row, "I am a good photographer. Everything’s gonna be okay." I imagined every scenario that could go wrong. I imagined doing the whole shoot out of focus. - Fitts

Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they're not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. Synopsis: Jack has a terrible secret. He is really the notorious Boy A who committed a terrible crime when he was just a child. Recently released from a juvenile prison, he enters a world he has never been part of. He is haunted by his grim past, and is more a boy than a man at 24. His caseworker Terry sees the good in him and does everything in his power to give Boy A a second chance. Boy A chooses the name Jack and is set up with a job, a home and the opportunity for a new life. He bonds with Chris and finds a girlfriend in Michelle, both co-workers who witness Jack’s newfound compassion and loyalty. As relationships develop, he is torn between the deceit in concealing his past and the potential exoneration by revealing his crime. Jack no longer doubts his capacity to love and has more to lose than ever. He seeks Terry's approval to confess the truth to Michelle but is implored to keep his secret for fear of his own safety. Spending 14 years in prison has done nothing to persuade the public he’s paid his dues. Accompanying his release is a widespread, media frenzy which re-ignites public indignation. The crime and trial are covered as current news and feed a hunger for revenge. Although Jack bears little resemblance to the young Boy A, it becomes increasingly clear that the past may be impossible to escape.

Synopsis: When Jasira, a 13-year-old Arab-American girl, is exiled by her mother to live with her strict Lebanese father in Houston, she quickly learns that her new neighbors find her and her father odd and exotic. Worse, her budding womanhood makes her traditional and hot-tempered father uncomfortable. Lonely in this unfamiliar environment, Jasira seeks to connect with those around her and finds both comfort and cruelty. Discovering that her ethnicity and newfound sexuality make her a target, Jasira must confront racism and hypocrisy both at home and at school. But even that relationship causes problems when her father discovers that Thomas is black. Driven by a deep longing for affection and acceptance, Jasira becomes the embodiment of the racial, sexual and political agendas of these very different men in her life--her father with his old world ideas of women; her dangerously alluring neighbor, Mr. Vuoso, and Thomas, who offers the promise of some feeling of connection through sex. Noah Hawley @ The Punch, A Novel

Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Amber Tamblyn and Joshua Close came out for Noah Hawley's The Punch, A Novel book party at Chateau Marmont on Sunset Boulevard.

Hawley is also a producer on Bones and executive producer of upcoming television series - The Unusuals.

WireImage

The Punch, A Novel traces the path of Scott and David Henry as they prepare for their father's memorial service. Younger brother Scott—stuck in a dead-end job, failing in love and a frequenter of San Francisco strip clubs—is saddled with his alcoholic, self-destructing mother, Doris, on their trip to New York. Scott's successful sales executive and closeted bigamist brother, David, shares Doris duty while navigating memorial service preparations and secretly juggling marriages on both coasts. Along the way, a family secret is revealed, two hotels are nearly blown up and the trio explores what it means to be a family. Unfortunately, Hawley's asides on physics, religion and the nature of time distract from the plot without adding to it, and the occasional dud sentence pops up (Now they circle their wagons and eye each other warily from the high towers of their castles). However, the characters—especially Doris—and humorously handled uncomfortable situations (as when David's two wives meet) somewhat mitigate these shortcomings, and the memorial service at the legendary White Horse Tavern provides a rollicking climax.

Roger Ebert Exits At The Movies

Richard Roeper severed ties with Disney /ABC Television, and now Roger Ebert is leaving At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper as well.

In an Ebert statement: After 33 years on the air, 23 of them with Disney, the studio has decided to take the program named Siskel & Ebert and then Ebert & Roeper in a new direction. I will no longer be associated with it.

rogerebert.suntimes

The show was a wonderful experience. It was a great loss to me when surgery in July 2006 made it impossible for me to appear on the air any longer. Although I remained active behind the scenes, I feel that Richard Roeper and several co-hosts, notably Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott, have excelled at carrying on the tradition Gene Siskel and I began in 1975 with "Sneak Previews" on PBS.

Gene and I felt the formula was simplicity itself: Two film critics, sitting across the aisle from each other in a movie balcony, debating the new films of the week. We developed an entirely new concept for TV. Few shows have been on the air so long and remained so popular. We made television history, and established the trademarked catch-phrase Two thumbs up.

The trademark still belongs to me and Marlene Iglitzen, Gene's widow, and the thumbs will return. We are discussing possibilities, and plan to continue the show's tradition.

Richard Roeper Exits At the Movies

Chicago Sun-Times columnist and film critic Richard Roeper is leaving ABC's At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper after his contract agreement extension had failed with Disney-ABC Domestic Television. Roeper's last appearance on At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper will air the weekend of August 16 to 17, after eight seasons on the program.

Associated Press

"Several months ago, Disney offered to extend my contract, which expires at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season," Roeper said. "I opted to wait. Much transpired after that behind the scenes, but an agreement was never reached, and we are all moving on."

Roeper replaced the Ebert's co-host and friend, Chicago Tribune film critic Gene Siskel, in 2000 after Siskel died of a brain tumor in 1999.
