Levi Johnston Humps GQ

The Republican and GOP convention's once photo-op fixture Levi Jonhston continues his media tour of striking out on his own and away from his baby's mother - Bristol Palin - and former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's clan. The 19-year-old father Levi graces the pages of GQ as a model and discusses the difficulties of raising his son - Tripp - with no money and no job on the horizon.

Update: The Daily News reveal the sneak peek of Playgirl's black-&-white artistic pictorial of aspiring model and actor Levi Johnston controversial revealing photos for the adult magazine. Levi Johnston's manager Tank Jones tells Us magazine that "People are going to see more of Levi than they thought." And that "He's ready to shock the world. The hell with 15 minutes."

It seems the faux-nekkid spread might be in the vain of Farrah Fawcett's 1997 artistic Playboy photos and less raunchy, which is a smart move on Johnston's part and his creative team. I personally have no interest in seeing his photos, but he definitely knows how to market himself. We updated Levi Johnston blog-snippet because (RR) readers demand it.

Michelle Obama Humps Time

After being knighted as one of Time's 100 Influential People, our first lady Michelle Obama is annotated as a cover girl and given an examination under The Meaning of Michelle story. Here are snippets from the interviews:

On Michelle Obama's style: You've got to make choices that make sense for you ... because there's always going to be somebody who'll think you should do something differently. So you might as well start with what you like, and what you care about, what your passions are, what makes sense. That's my message to women, if anything, over the course of this, is, find your space. Find your spot. Wear what you love. Choose the careers that may have meaning to you, because there's always somebody who will say, I wouldn't have worn that color, or why didn't you work at that job."

On advices she received from former first ladies: The most unexpected and uniform advice that I got was, Go to Camp David, early and often. It's one place you can go where you feel some level of freedom and an ability to breathe.

On being a role model: There are thousands of Michelle and Barack Obamas all over this nation.

Ejen Chuang @ Two Shows, One Night!

My bud Ejen Chuang has two upcoming shows on Thursday, June 11 @ Todd/Browning Gallery [East to West] and Spring Arts Tower [Life Below The Line], the exhibits will include images of singer Matthew Bellamy of Muse @ Starlight and Queen of the Stone Age @ 3 & 7 music video shoots. Here's a snag posting from his EjenChuang.blogspot.com below.

So this is my official posting. I'll have two shows at June's Downtown Art Walk (that is June 11, 2009). Yes two....and here's the story behind this. For about a year now, the management of my office building have egged me on showing my work in the lobby. They know I do production stills and behind the scenes and I've been tinkering with an idea of documenting "life below the line" so finally after 8 or 10 months, I've decided to just do it. So when you walk into this 1920s Art Deco office building, my images will be gracing the walls of the lobby.

Meanwhile, the owner of the Todd/Browning Gallery (yes, I believe this is a tribute to THAT Todd) around the corner had seen my series I did on folks who dressed up at anime conventions and been pushing me to show it. I feel flatter, seriously because they usually don't put up unpublished photographers and I don't have a book out. The images were shot at the Anime Expo convention from the summer of 2008. I used to be into anime when I was younger but stop going a while back. That summer Anime Expo happen to be at the LA Convention Center so I decided to bring my camera, lights and a backdrop. 3 days and 250 portraits later, I had a series :)

The Todd/Browning one is a group show with another photographer and the show itself is called "East to West".

East to West
Todd/Browning Gallery
211 West 5th Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013

LBTL [life below the line]
Spring Arts Tower
453 S. Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013

Don't worry, they're only around the corner from each other so you won't have to walk too far. For those who don't know about the Downtown Art Walk, it has grown so much in the past few years. Attendance is usually around 3,000 folks and can feel like a street fair. Local restaurants and shops have specials going on during the event and last month the Kogi Korean Taco truck made an appearance! I suggest getting here early to snag parking. It usually gets going closer to 7:30/8 pm.

Full detail @ downtownartwalk.com. Anyways, hope to see y'all there !!!

Chris Pine Humps GQ

Ben Watts and Tom Schierlitz shoot Star Trek actor Chris Pine for June issue of GQ and Pine opens up about his role as a Trekkie god and his work [craft]. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

On not being much of a Trekkie: I was a Star Wars kid. The kitsch factor in the original Star Trek series is high, but the show manages to take on these huge questions about race, sex, and war. I have a great appreciation for what Mr. Shatner did with the part. There's a gravity to it, but he's having fun.

On being interested in diverse roles and concerns about being typecast forever because of his looks: I did a movie called Smokin’ Aces, and the casting director didn’t want to see me for the role of a neo-Nazi hit man. But it didn’t bum me out. I had to prove I could do it.

On Lindsay Lohan's media circus when they co-starred in Just My Luck [in 2006]: She was making a lot of money and attracting a lot of attention from the paparazzi. It put in stark relief that I don't want that kind of life.

Gabourey 'Gabbie' Sidibe's Precious - Trailer

I've known about author Sapphire [Ramona Lofton]'s Push since 1999 when she first appeared on The Charlie Rose Show and have wanted to read her book since. Then the 1996 published Push was later optioned for adaptation, began shooting on 10/24/2007 and screened at 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where it won three awards: the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize, the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award and the Special Jury Prize for Acting (Mo'Nique).

Push was retitled as Precious when Lionsgate purchased director Lee Daniels' film @ Sundance with Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry presenting the incredible film. And finally today, the trailer is here. So click the image [below] to view the full trailer.

Precious is about Clareece "Precious" Jones - an overweight, illiterate African-American teenager in Harlem in 1987. Just as she's about to give birth to her second child, Jones is accepted into an alternative school where a teacher helps her find a new path in her life.

Precious rolls into theaters on Friday, November 6.

Update: I've embed the trailer and official synopsis: Set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece Precious Jones, a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. She's pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother, a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write. Precious may sometimes be down, but she is never out. Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakeable sense that other possibilities exist for her. Threatened with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One/Teach One. Precious doesn't know the meaning of "alternative", but her instincts tell her this is the chance she has been waiting for. In the literacy workshop taught by the patient yet firm Ms. Rain, Precious begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination.

Chris Pine @ Saturday Night Live

The stars of Star Trek - Leonard Nimoy, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto - beam into Saturday Night Live's Weekend Updates and reassures all trekkies and SNL-er Seth Meyers that this isn't their father's Star Trek, but entertaining nonetheless. I saw the film @ The Grove on Saturday and loved it, and I'm not even a trekkie.

The surprising story was well-written and strong with subtext, and the performances rival any Dark Knight acting effort. Star Trek is a must-see for the whole family, especially for summer movie-goers and cine-philes. As the trekkies say, [Vulcan salute], "long live and prosper".
