James McAvoy Humps Details

James McAvoy sells Timur Bekmambetov's blockbuster film - Wanted - by gracing the cover and pages of Details August 2008 issue.

On receiving unprecedented attention: It was surprising coming here, because I've been recognized more than ever.

On being critical: I judge people very quickly. There was someone I worked with recently who, within five minutes, displayed all the attributes of a fucking dick, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Weeks later I was still there, going 'You're so fucking self-obsessed.' I've spent a long time giving people the benefit of the doubt, and I'm tired of it.

On not liking to go out in his twenties: All of my friends got so drunk they couldn't even walk, let alone dance, and you just stand there going 'So what am I going to do?

On his observation of pop-culture: I saw a clip of something—this girl has on a humongous fat suit and she's singing that 'my milk shake brings all the boys to the yard' song, and I just felt like, 'That's so disrespectful.' I would not want to be a woman in this industry. Horrible.

Angelina Jolie Humps Entertainment Weekly

While checking out a window display of Corum watches at the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in south of France, Angelina Jolie talks to Entertainment Weekly promoting Timur Bekmambetov's action-packed summer flick - Wanted - which she stars in.

On discussing politics with director Clint Eastwood: We don't disagree as much as you'd think [politically], she says of Eastwood. I'm registered independent. I'm looking at McCain as well as Obama

Vincent Peters

I was describing the plot of Wanted to a friend and she said, "So instead of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, this is just Mrs. Smith": Maybe this is Mrs. Smith after she killed Mr. Smith, went into depression, and got very, very, very moody. Fox is not happy, and she's not easy to be around. She was interesting to me because she isn't the love interest and she isn't having fun with it like the Tomb Raider. She's darker.

Do you worry that people will have a hard time squaring this gun-toting character with your role as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador: They do seem quite incongruous. I am a strong believer that without justice there is no peace. No lasting peace, anyway. I'm somebody who's very curious about the International Criminal Court and supportive of following through on the arrest warrants in Darfur. I'm not somebody that just wants to hold up a white flag and say, ''Let's all just get along.'' I think people that do horrible things should be held accountable. I don't think like in Wanted — which is an action movie — people should [just] be killed. I think there should be trials and justice. But the idea behind Wanted is not that she's a badass assassin that just likes to kill people. It's that, if you ran into Hitler before he did everything, and you knew, should you shoot him? And I would. These assassins are getting lists: They find out who is going to slaughter other people ahead of time and they remove them. So that was the side of me that identified with her. But it is a confusing thing, certainly for rights activists. Don't read too much into it. I am holding a gun, but there are so many people that have done so many horrible things... Pol Pot died a grandfather in the jungle, most likely of old age. Never was punished for what he did.

Tony Rivetti Jr.

What convinced you to do the movie: I was in between A Mighty Heart and Changeling, which were two very, very emotionally difficult films to do. And my mom had passed away in that year. And I'd had a baby. So everything in me was just feeling very fragile. And so, knowing myself, I thought, What I need to do most is get up and get focused and get aggressive and get out of myself a little bit. We discussed that at home — that that would be good for me. Then I read this and knew they were casting McAvoy, and I thought, That sounds really unusual. I met Timur and I knew that he'd include a story. I know that sounds odd, but a lot of action movies rely so much on generic special effects or a story we've heard before.

James McAvoy @ Wanted - Berlin Premiere

James McAvoy sans Angelina Jolie promotes director Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted to cineophiles and press in Berlin, Germany.

Johannes Eisele

While promoting Tom Vaughan's Starter For 10, McAvoy had a Q&A with ComingSoon.net and had this to say about Wanted: Yeah, kinda, and they want me to do as much as I can anyway. There's a lot of free running and Parkour and all that kind of stuff. A lot of driving and guns and all that kinda rubbish. But it's quite important for me because the reason I wanted to play this character in Wanted was because it still adheres to what I believe in, that heroes shouldn't always be perfect. We shouldn't always have the six-foot-five, chiseled-jawed, good-looking guy. That's why it's so good that Spider-Man is somebody like Tobey Maguire, and that's why I took this role. They wanted someone geeky. I screen-tested for the movie over a year ago and they never gave me the part. Then, it was about seven months later when they went, "Look, we've been trying to find someone who's muscle-y who looks good and all that, but it just didn't work with someone like that so they said, "Could you come and do it?" They basically just said, "You're the runt of the litter and that's what makes it work" so yeah, and that's why I like it. So while I'm doing all this physical work, it's important for me to remain small. I'm sure they want me to get all big, but it's important to remain believably geeky.

Angelina Jolie Re-Humps Vanity Fair

Humanitarian and actress Angelina Jolie talks to Vanity Fair, and poses for famed photog Patrick Demarchelier. And here are excerpts from the July issue:

On why she chose to do Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted: Because I had just done A Mighty Heart and was scheduled to do Changeling, which is about the kidnapping of a child. And I had lost my mom. And I knew I was in this odd, fuzzy state going from one loss and kidnapping to another loss and kidnapping. Then Wanted came along. It’s about being physical and jumping and running and being violent, and instinctively I knew I needed to do that.

On her relationship with Brad Pitt: People have made a lot out of it that we're not. But we both have been married before, and it's very easy to get married, but it's not easy to build a family and be parents together. And maybe we've done it backwards, but we certainly feel married.

On naming her daughter Shiloh: It's a biblical name, but we didn't name her for that. It was a name my parents almost named their first child—there was a miscarriage: Shiloh Baptist. Because my father had been shooting in Georgia and that was the most southern name [my parents] could come up with. It's a name I always liked. I used to go under it in hotels: Shiloh Baptist. I'd gone under it when [Brad] called hotel rooms where I was staying.

On her mother's passing: When [my mother] passed, I realized that somebody who lives life with that kind of dedication to their family is the most noble. I was aware of it growing up. I admired her. And I loved her. But in her passing she reminded me what matters. And what’s most fun—to put yourself aside for these other little people you’re raising.

On religion: Brad got me this great thing for Christmas. It's a bookshelf that has a book on every religion. That's how we plan to raise our kids. Teach them about all religions. They can pick one or be a student of all of them. We'll celebrate Kwanzaa for our girl. We'll celebrate moon and water festivals for our boys. We'll take them to temples in certain countries. Also to church.

On meeting Brad Pitt: After my last divorce, I said I was absolutely going to marry somebody in another field, an aid worker or something. Then I met Brad, everything I wasn't looking for, but the best man, the best father I could possibly wish for, you know? I don’t see him as an actor. I see him very much as a dad, as somebody who loves travel and architecture more than being in movies.

On her father Jon Voight and his film Coming Home, which he won the best-actor Oscar in 1979: Actually. I've never seen Coming Home. Because that was when my father left my mom, and the woman who he cheated on her with is in the film. (When rumors surfaced about Jolie and Pitt, who was then married to Aniston, Jolie denied them, saying, in essence, Look, this is what happened to my mother, so I could never do it to another woman.)

On teaching Maddox about death: Mad always knew my mom was sick. So when it happened, I sat him down and I told him how some people believe there's a heaven where everybody goes and is together again. And they believe it's very white and beautiful. And some believe—he'd just seen Casper—there are ghosts who are people and they are always around. And some believe it's a long peaceful sleep. When I told him, and I was crying, 'Grand-mère died today, we won't be able to see her anymore, but she'll always be around,' he said, 'Like she's here now? Like she's in that chair?' And I said, 'Well, I suppose she could be.’ And he accepted it. It's funny. It's like we teach kids the things that we want to believe. Then we see that they have such beautiful faith and it helps them go to bed and we're in the other room not sleeping well.

On sharing a love of philanthropy with Brad: This was actually one of the things that brought us together. Though he wasn't as publicly active, I found him to be very aware of the world, very curious, very compassionate. In his private way, he had been doing a lot. When we met, we realized our common goals were that we both wanted to be involved in the world and see what we could do. We have similar interests but different approaches. He’s more involved in rebuilding New Orleans, environmental issues, green sustainability. I am more refugees. But when it comes to common goals—orphans, orphans’ rights, children—we support each other. It brings us together and makes our relationship work.

Angelina Jolie Humps Vanity Fair

New mom-to-be and actress Angelina Jolie opens up to Vanity Fair, and graces the cover and pages of the July issue. And here are excerpts:

On being pregnant: I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing. Also, I'm fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depend-ing on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.

On her international family: When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It's not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It's a gift. We're all lucky to have each other. I look at Shiloh—because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little—and say, 'If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?’ I suppose I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.

On Shiloh's birth: We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don't think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing…. I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn’t find it a sacrifice and I didn’t find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do.

On nannies: We don't ever have anybody spend the night. We may have to adjust that when the next one comes. But we do have ladies that work with us, and they're also from different cultures and back-grounds. One lady's a Vietnamese teacher—wonderful. One is of Congolese descent from Bel-gium. Another is from the States and is really creative and does art programs.

On artists as parents: Artists raise their kids differently, she said. We communicate to the point where we probably annoy our children. We have art around the house, we have books, we go to plays, we talk. Our focus is art and painting and dress-up and singing. It's what we love. So I think you can see how artists in some way raise other artists.
