Everybody Loves Madonna's Hard Candy

Madonna and her daughter Lourdes leave London's Heathrow for New York to begin Hard Candy (out Tuesday April 29) promotional blitz. The "Four Minutes" single tops the UK chart and six tracks from Hard Candy were leaked on the internet.

Flynet

Rolling Stone gives Hard Candy 4 stars and their average user rate it 4 1/2 stars.

Here's part of the review: "Madonna can still scoff at wanna-be's half her age because she's stayed so flexible with her sound. (She's performed a similar feat with her body, devoting herself to a yoga regimen that's made her impossibly elastic — name another near-fifty-year-old who can still rock a hot crotch shot on her album cover.) Even when she wrestles with Pharrell's abrupt stylistic changes or lets herself get absorbed in a Timberlake melody, Madonna still finds her way back on top. The atmospheric closing track, "Voices," poses the question "Who is the master, who is the slave?" before its operatic wind-down ends in a dramatic bell toll. The answer to both questions is still Madonna."

Madonna Re-Humps Vanity Fair (Green)

Madonna's excerpts from her Vanity Fair interview and London's The Times' James Christopher review of her feature film, Filth and Wisdom -

On the birth of her daughter Lourdes putting Madonna on the road that ended in Malawi: If you have children, you know you're responsible for somebody, she explained. You realize you are being imitated; your belief systems and priorities have a direct influence on these children, who are like flowers in a garden. So you start to second-guess everything you value, and the suffering of other children becomes much more intolerable.

James Christopher of London's The Times positive review of Filth and Wisdom: Her film has an artistic ambition that has simply bypassed her husband, the film director Guy Ritchie. She captures that wonderfully accidental nature of luck when people's lives intersect for a whole swathe of unlikely but cherishable reasons. Altmanesque would be stretching the compliment too far, but Filth and Wisdom shows Madonna has real potential as a director.

Steven Meisel

A narration excerpt from Madonna's I Am Because We Are - 90 minutes Malawi documentary: People always ask me why I chose Malawi. And I tell them, I didn’t. It chose me. I got a phone call from a woman named Victoria Keelan. She was born and raised in Malawi. She told me that there were over one million children orphaned by aids. She said there weren’t enough orphanages. And that the children were everywhere. Living on the streets. Sleeping under bridges. Hiding in abandoned buildings. Being abducted, kidnapped, raped. She said it was a state of emergency. She sounded exhausted and on the verge of tears. I asked her how I could help. She said, You’re a person with resources. People pay attention to what you say and do. I felt embarrassed. I told her I didn’t know where Malawi was. She told me to look it up on a map, and then she hung up on me. I decided to investigate, and I ended up finding out much more than I bargained for, about Malawi, about myself, about humanity.

Madonna's Hard Candy will be available on Tuesday April 29, and you can pre-order it now on ITunes.

Madonna Humps Interview

Madonna poses for Interview April issue, illuminates Malawi issues and promotes her album - Hard Candy.

Steven Klein

Madonna on adopting her son David: He wouldn't have lived if I hadn't taken him. It's not even a possibility.

Madonna on bringing daughter Lourdes with her to Malawi: She spent several weeks working in the orphanages, particularly one with newborn children, and most of them were HIV-positive. She so came into her own and was so responsible and stayed for eight hours every day and worked tirelessly. I thought, why am I babying her so much? She's capable of so much more. We don't let kids do anything. We think, Oh, they're kids -- they can't take care of other kids; they can't do this; they can't do that. And after you go to Africa, you drop all that silliness.

Hard Candy drops worldwide on April 29 release. And Justin Timberlake will induct Madonna into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at NYC's Waldorf-Astoria hotel on Monday, March 10.

Madonna's Filth & Wisdom

RR Watch: Madonna's Filth & Wisdom

Madonna makes her feature directorial debut with Filth & Wisdom. It was originally envisioned as a short film. The film is co-written and directed by Madonna.

Synposis: Andriy Krystiyan, or A K for short, has come to England from the Ukraine. A K is a philosopher (at least that's what he claims to be), a poet, and an authority on all aspects of life. At the same time, he is following his grand plan to become an international star. Global stardom is how A K describes the goal that he and his band Gogol Bordello are pursuing with their particular brand of boisterous gypsy punk. For the time being, however, he makes ends meet by performing role play in women's clothing for straight married men. A K shares a flat with two young women named Juliette and Holly. Juliette dreams of being a kind of Florence Nightingale of the developing world. She is currently working behind the counter at the local drug store run by Sardeep, the Indian chemist. Holly is a trained ballerina. Her big dream is to dance with the Royal Ballet. So far she hasn't been able to earn a single penny with her dancing, and continues to 'polish' her skills as a pole dancer at Beechman's Exotic Gentleman's Club.
